In accordance with the requirements of the national standard WST 367-2012, ‘Technical Specifications for Disinfection in Medical Institutions’, regarding the measurement of ultraviolet radiation intensity: during testing, ensure that the UVC radiometer is positioned 1 metre below the lamp, in the centre,

New tubes with a value of ≥90 μW/cm² are considered to meet the standard, whilst used tubes with a value below 70 μW/cm² are deemed non-compliant.

Monitoring the intensity of ultraviolet (UV) light is a key measure for ensuring the effective use of UV lamps; in accordance with the regulations, measurements must be taken at a distance of 1 metre directly below the UV lamp.

To this end, our company has designed and manufactured a batch of hooks for UV intensity monitoring scales, intended for the routine monitoring of UV lamp intensity; these have performed well in practical use.

Method:

The ruler hook is made from a 1-metre-long hollow iron tube. A length of wire is welded to one end to form a hook, allowing it to be hung on a UV lamp. The other end is fitted with a 1 mm thick, 140 mm wide by 170 mm long iron plate, which serves as a platform for holding the instrument probe and the instrument itself.

The instrument’s probe contains a magnet, allowing it to attach to an iron plate; several copper pins are fixed to the iron plate to secure the instrument and prevent it from falling whilst being moved.

 

Features of the hook:

 

1: The results obtained using the homemade ruler hook are fairly accurate and the method is easy to use.

 

2: This has resolved the previous difficulty in accurately determining the distance at which to position the UV radiation intensity meter, thereby ensuring the accuracy of the monitoring results.

 

3: To facilitate prompt readings and minimise the time inspection personnel are exposed to ultraviolet radiation, thereby reducing physical harm, care should be taken to ensure the device is positioned exactly in the centre of the ultraviolet lamp during use.
